Wayland factory upgrade
Due to the Wayland major factory upgrades in 2014/15, there have been many production changes / improvements / additions to the current Wayland range, so many of the photos may show the earlier variants. Photos on the 'Recent Deliveries' page will show the latest variants.

Descriptions on this site are subject to change without prior notice.

Can I paddle anywhere?
In the UK, you need a license to paddle in most of the waterways, rivers, lakes, etc.
BCU membership (Canoe England, Canoe Wales, Scotland Canoe Association and the Canoe Association of Northern Ireland) includes a licence to paddle on 5000km of Britain's waterways and canals.

Not all inland water is open to canoeists, some are privately owned or is bounded by land which is private, so do check beforehand. See Useful Web sites page.

In other countries, do check with your national kayak organisations and waterway / off-shore agencies etc.

Decks
A Choice of 16 deck colours (DIKLON 32) is available for all Wayland's kayaks (including the Mk I Achilli & Mk II Zoska Commando Range) as well as for all replacement skins for other brands of kayaks such as Klepper, Pouch, Granta, etc.

For Mk I Achilli and the Mk II Zoska / Formoza Commando range of kayaks, there are 5 'military' colours.

During 2013, the standard hull material is switching to gray CSM (a variant of Hypalon). Black Hypalon and black TPU is available on special request. Photos on this site mostly show the black Hypalon hulls.

What deck colour should I go for?
This depends on what your main needs are. If you are into nature touring / expeditions such as bird-watching, wild life photography etc, then natural background or water tone colours will enable your boat to blend in with the surroundings. If you are into waterway touring with kids, then you may want to avoid 'hard to be seen' colours and go for colours so that other powered boat / yacht owners can see you clearly from a reasonable distance. For extreme paddlers / expeditioners, paddling in the open sea, you may consider opting for high visibility colours. Boat safety should always be taken into consideration because, if you need others to find you, being spotted by rescue is of vital importance.

Some colors which seem to be highly visible are not. White / light brown kayaks can be mistaken for surf or a crashing wave. Red kayaks disappear more quickly in low light - quickly goes to black in darkness. Even bright blue kayaks can be hard to see in blue ocean waters, as are medium to dark green boats. Out in the sea, for visibility, most kayakers recommend yellow or bright orange, however some ocean kayak fishermen say that yellow kayaks attract sea lions. The animals will steal bait and fish off a line. They recommend bright green or orange boats when fishing near sea lion habitat.

Should you opt for a low visibility coloured kayak, but need to increase visibility when the need arises, you can attach bright coloured triangular Deck Visibility Panels to the front and rear decks (or raise flags etc). See Accessories page.

Alternatively, f
or those into serious wildlife nature photography / touring / filming or fishing, but still want a "normal / high visibility" kayak, custom made camouflage skirts that covers the entire kayak deck down to the waterline are available.

For example, the Gobi Dry above may appear on your screen as being light gray whereas actually it is more like Cream. Photos of kayaks will show the same colours slightly differently.

Further technical details of the DIKLON 32 Marine deck material can be found in 'Construction'.

The 'SATTLER' Colour Range
- Mk 1 Achilli & Mk II Zoska / Formoza military kayaks.
CSM or TPU (black) hulls / SATTLER decks

Standard deck colours are: SATTLER Black, SATTLER Olive, SATTLER Camo.
SATTLER is the standard military grade canvas. Other colours from the DIKLON range for COMMANDO models (not COMBAT) may be available on special request.

NOTES
1 - Photos of pre 2015 military kayaks on this site - EG - COMMANDO variants were made with DIKLON 32 which is no longer standard as the material used for the current military kayaks.
2 - DIKLON Nato Khaki (Grey) is not the same colour as SATTLER Nato Khaki (Olive) - the two manufacturers use the name 'Nato Khaki' to refer to completely different colours! This is why on this site, to avoid confusion, we call the Wayland factory's official term 'SATTLER Nato Khaki' as 'SATTLER Olive' on this site to refer to the olive green colour.
